Fitment can vary by configuration, lighting system, and factory equipment.

Finding the correct automotive light bulb is not always as simple as matching a year, make, and model. The same vehicle can use different bulbs depending on its lighting system, trim level, factory options, headlamp assembly, or other configuration differences. ALBulbs is designed to make those differences easier to understand and to show you not only which bulb may fit, but also how much confidence we have in that fitment information.

This page explains the information you may see after using the ALBulbs Vehicle Finder, including bulb positions, verification levels, fitment notes, standard replacement products, and LED alternatives.

Start With Your Exact Vehicle

The more accurately you identify your vehicle, the more useful your results will be.

The ALBulbs finder may ask for your Year, Make, Model, and Configuration. Configuration is especially important when a manufacturer used more than one lighting system during the same model year.

For example, one version of a vehicle may have halogen headlights while another uses HID or LED assemblies. Two vehicles with the same year, make, and model may therefore require completely different headlight bulbs.

When a configuration choice is available, select the option that most closely matches your vehicle before relying on the results.

If you are unsure which lighting system your vehicle has, check the existing bulb, owner’s manual, headlamp housing markings, or other vehicle documentation before purchasing a replacement.

Understanding Bulb Positions

Your results are organized by lighting position rather than simply showing a list of bulb numbers.

A vehicle can have many different lighting positions, including low beam headlights, high beams, fog lights, front turn signals, rear turn signals, brake lights, tail lights, reverse lights, license plate lights, dome lights, map lights, cargo lights, and other interior or exterior lighting.

Each position can use a different bulb.

This means that seeing a bulb such as H11, 9005, 7440, or 578 in your results does not necessarily mean that bulb is used everywhere on the vehicle. Always check the lighting position shown next to the bulb number.

In some cases, the same bulb number may be used in more than one location. ALBulbs may therefore show the same bulb for multiple positions when the available fitment information supports that application.

What the Verification Labels Mean

Not every piece of automotive fitment information has the same level of supporting evidence. Instead of treating every result as equally certain, ALBulbs uses verification labels to help communicate the strength of the available fitment information.

You may see one of the following labels:

  • Not Verified — The result has some supporting fitment information, but ALBulbs does not currently have enough independent confirmation to classify it as verified. This does not automatically mean the result is incorrect. It means you should take additional care to confirm the bulb before purchasing.
  • Verified — The fitment has stronger supporting evidence, such as confirmation from multiple sources or qualifying manufacturer information.
  • Cross-Checked Verified — The fitment has been supported by a higher level of independent confirmation. This is the strongest verification label currently shown by ALBulbs.

Verification is intended to give you additional context, not to replace inspection of the vehicle.

Automotive manufacturers can make running production changes, previous owners may have installed aftermarket lighting assemblies, and vehicle databases can occasionally contain conflicting information. Even a highly supported result should be compared with the bulb or assembly currently installed in the vehicle whenever practical.

What Does “Not Verified” Mean?

A Not Verified result should not be interpreted as “wrong.”

It means ALBulbs has not yet collected enough qualifying evidence to give that result one of the higher verification classifications.

In some cases, a fitment may come from a credible catalog but currently have only a single qualifying source. In other cases, multiple sources may disagree about a particular application or vehicle configuration.

We would rather show that uncertainty than present every result as unquestionably correct.

If your result is marked Not Verified, checking the existing bulb number before ordering is particularly important.

Fitment Notes

Some results include a fitment note.

These notes provide additional information that may affect how you interpret the result. A note may identify a particular lighting system, configuration, source conflict, or other condition associated with the bulb application.

Do not ignore these notes.

If a bulb result appears correct but the fitment note describes a different lighting system than the one installed on your vehicle, you should verify the application before purchasing.

As the ALBulbs database continues to develop, fitment notes also help preserve important information that cannot be communicated with a bulb number alone.

Standard Replacement Bulbs

When shopping options are available, ALBulbs may display a standard replacement bulb with the fitment result.

The standard replacement is intended to correspond to the bulb type identified for that position. Depending on availability, the shopping result may link to a specific compatible product or to a broader Amazon search for that bulb number.

A product appearing beside a fitment result does not mean ALBulbs manufactures, sells, or warrants that product.

Before ordering, review the product listing and make sure the bulb number, technology, package quantity, and other relevant specifications match what you need.

This is especially important for bulb numbers that are offered in multiple colors, wattages, technologies, or package configurations.

LED Alternatives

For some applications, ALBulbs may also show an LED Alternative separately from the standard replacement.

We intentionally keep the LED option separate.

An LED alternative does not change the original bulb fitment shown for your vehicle. Instead, it provides an additional shopping option for drivers interested in an LED replacement where an appropriate alternative is available.

LED retrofits require additional consideration because physical bulb size is only one part of compatibility.

Depending on the vehicle and lighting position, an LED replacement may be affected by housing design, polarity, available clearance, heat dissipation, bulb-out monitoring, CAN bus electronics, dimming behavior, beam pattern, or local regulations.

For headlights in particular, replacing a halogen or HID light source with a different technology can affect how the headlamp assembly distributes light.

Always review the LED manufacturer’s compatibility information and instructions before installation.

Why Two Similar Vehicles May Have Different Results

It is common to find different bulb requirements between vehicles that appear nearly identical.

Manufacturers may offer multiple headlamp packages, change suppliers during a production year, use different bulbs with certain trim levels, or make changes between manufacturing plants or markets.

This is one reason ALBulbs organizes vehicle data as precisely as possible rather than assuming that every vehicle sharing a model name uses the same lighting equipment.

When available, configuration-specific results should take priority over a more general vehicle match.

Always Check Before You Buy

ALBulbs is designed to reduce the guesswork involved in automotive bulb replacement, but the final verification should still happen at the vehicle whenever possible.

Before purchasing or installing a bulb, compare the ALBulbs result with the existing bulb number, connector, socket, lighting assembly, and any relevant information from the vehicle manufacturer.

If the existing bulb does not match the ALBulbs result, do not force a replacement simply because it appears in the database.

There may be a configuration difference, aftermarket assembly, catalog discrepancy, or fitment issue that needs further investigation.

Help Us Improve ALBulbs

Automotive fitment data becomes more useful when discrepancies can be identified and reviewed.

If you believe a result is incorrect, if your vehicle uses a different bulb than the one displayed, or if an important configuration is missing, please let us know through the Report Incorrect Fitment option.

When reporting a fitment issue, information such as the year, make, model, configuration, lighting position, and bulb number currently installed can help us investigate the result.

Our goal is not simply to provide as many bulb numbers as possible. The goal is to make automotive lighting fitment clearer, more transparent, and easier to verify.
