Fitment Review
Accurate vehicle lighting information is the foundation of ALBulbs. If a bulb shown in your vehicle results does not match the bulb actually installed in your vehicle, we want to know about it.
Use this page to report incorrect bulb fitment, a missing lighting configuration, an incorrect bulb position, or another problem with an ALBulbs vehicle result.
The more information you can provide, the easier it is for us to investigate the fitment and determine whether the database should be updated.
Before You Report a Fitment Issue
Before submitting a correction, please double-check the vehicle and lighting position shown in your ALBulbs results.
Confirm that you selected the correct:
- Year
- Make
- Model
- Vehicle or lighting configuration, when available
- Lighting position
The same year, make, and model can sometimes use different bulbs depending on the trim level, headlamp system, factory lighting package, body style, or other equipment.
If ALBulbs provides more than one configuration for your vehicle, make sure the configuration you selected matches the lighting equipment actually installed.
Check the Existing Bulb
Whenever practical, inspect the bulb currently installed in the vehicle before submitting a report.
Look for a bulb number printed, stamped, molded, or etched on the bulb or its base.
Examples of bulb numbers include:
- H11
- 9005
- 9006
- 3157
- 7443
- 578
- D2S
- D5S
If possible, compare the installed bulb with the number shown in your ALBulbs result.
If the numbers are different, that information is especially helpful when reporting the issue.
What Information Should You Include?
Please provide as much of the following information as you can:
- Vehicle year
- Vehicle make
- Vehicle model
- Configuration or trim information, if known
- Lighting position
- Bulb number shown by ALBulbs
- Bulb number actually installed in the vehicle
- Lighting technology, such as halogen, HID, or factory LED
- Any useful notes about the lamp assembly
You do not need to know every detail to submit a report. Even a confirmed vehicle, lighting position, and actual bulb number can provide useful information for review.
Tell Us the Exact Lighting Position
Identifying the correct lighting position is very important.
A vehicle can use different bulbs for many positions, including:
- Low Beam Headlight
- High Beam Headlight
- Fog Light
- Front Turn Signal
- Rear Turn Signal
- Tail Light
- Brake Light
- Reverse Light
- License Plate Light
- Dome Light
- Map Light
- Cargo or Trunk Light
Simply telling us that the “headlight bulb is wrong” may not provide enough information because the low beam and high beam can use completely different bulbs.
Whenever possible, tell us the exact position where you found the mismatch.
Vehicle Configuration Matters
Some apparent fitment errors are actually differences between factory vehicle configurations.
For example, one version of a vehicle may use halogen headlights while another version of the same year and model uses HID or factory LED headlights.
Other differences can include:
- Projector vs. reflector headlights
- Premium lighting packages
- Optional fog lights
- Different trim levels
- Different body styles
- Integrated LED tail lamps
- Regional equipment differences
If you know which configuration your vehicle has, include that information in your report.
Is the Lamp Assembly Original?
Before reporting a mismatch, consider whether the lamp assembly may have been replaced or modified.
Aftermarket headlights, tail lights, fog lights, and other lamp assemblies sometimes use different bulbs from the vehicle’s original factory equipment.
A previous owner may also have installed aftermarket lighting without leaving any documentation.
Signs that a lamp may be aftermarket can include:
- Branding other than the original vehicle manufacturer
- Custom projector or LED styling
- Modified wiring
- Non-original connectors
- Different left and right lamp assemblies
If you know the assembly is aftermarket, please mention that in your report. The information may explain why the installed bulb differs from the factory fitment.
What If ALBulbs Shows the Wrong Configuration?
You can also use this page if the correct vehicle or lighting configuration is missing.
For example, you may discover that your vehicle has factory HID headlights but ALBulbs only provides a halogen configuration.
In that situation, tell us what configuration is installed and, if possible, provide the bulb number or other identifying information from the lamp assembly.
Missing configuration reports can be just as useful as reports about an incorrect bulb number.
What If the Result Is Marked “Not Verified”?
A Not Verified result means ALBulbs has supporting information for the fitment but does not currently have enough qualifying confirmation to assign it a higher verification level.
It does not automatically mean the result is incorrect.
However, if you inspect your vehicle and confirm that a Not Verified result does not match the installed bulb, we definitely want to know about it.
Your report can help identify records that deserve additional investigation.
Learn more on the What Does “Not Verified” Mean? page.
What If a Verified Result Appears Incorrect?
Please report it.
A verification label represents the supporting fitment evidence currently available to ALBulbs. It does not mean that a record can never require correction.
Vehicle production changes, configuration differences, source errors, and other circumstances can still reveal discrepancies.
If the bulb physically installed in an original factory lamp does not match a Verified or Cross-Checked Verified result, that is important information for us to review.
Can I Report a Missing Bulb Position?
Yes.
If your vehicle has a lighting position that is not shown in the ALBulbs results, you can report that as well.
For example, you may notice that your results include the headlights and turn signals but do not include a replaceable cargo light or license plate bulb installed on your vehicle.
Tell us the position and bulb number when known.
Can I Report an Incorrect Fitment Note?
Yes. If a fitment note appears to describe the wrong lighting system or configuration, include that in your report.
Fitment notes provide important context about when a bulb applies, so inaccurate or incomplete notes should also be reviewed.
Visit Automotive Bulb Fitment Notes to learn more about how these notes are used.
Can I Report an LED Alternative?
If an LED alternative shown by ALBulbs appears to be associated with the wrong standard bulb or lighting application, you can report that information as well.
Remember that ALBulbs treats LED alternatives separately from standard vehicle fitment.
An LED option does not change the original bulb number used by the vehicle and may require additional compatibility checks.
For more information, visit the LED Compatibility and LED Retrofit Guide pages.
What Happens After You Submit a Report?
A submitted report does not automatically change the ALBulbs database.
The information should first be reviewed against the existing fitment record and available supporting evidence.
Depending on the issue, the review may involve:
- Checking the current vehicle record
- Reviewing existing supporting sources
- Comparing configuration information
- Checking manufacturer or catalog information when available
- Looking for additional independent confirmation
- Reviewing whether the lamp may be aftermarket
If the available evidence supports a correction, the fitment information can then be updated appropriately.
Why Reports Are Reviewed Before Making Changes
We appreciate every correction report, but changing a vehicle fitment based on a single unexplained difference could create a new error for other visitors.
For example, the bulb in one vehicle may differ because an aftermarket lamp was installed. Changing the factory fitment for every vehicle of that model would then make the database less accurate rather than more accurate.
Reviewing reports allows us to determine whether the issue affects the general vehicle fitment, a specific configuration, or only an individual modified vehicle.
Photos Can Be Helpful
If the reporting form allows attachments, photos can provide useful additional information.
Helpful photos can include:
- The bulb number printed on the existing bulb
- The bulb base and connector
- The lamp assembly
- Part numbers or labels on the housing
- The lighting configuration of the vehicle
A clear photo of the bulb number can sometimes answer questions that are difficult to describe in text.
Do Not Remove a Bulb If It Is Unsafe to Do So
You do not need to disassemble a difficult or hazardous lighting system simply to submit a report.
Some lamps are difficult to access, and certain lighting systems may involve electrical components that should be handled with appropriate care.
Only inspect or remove a bulb when you can do so safely and are comfortable with the procedure.
You can still submit the information you already know even if the bulb cannot easily be removed.
Report the Fitment Issue
Please use the form below to tell us what you found.
Include as much information as possible, especially the vehicle, lighting position, bulb shown by ALBulbs, and bulb actually installed.
A clear and specific report gives us the best opportunity to investigate the issue accurately.
Need to Check Your Results Again?
Before submitting your report, you can return to the ALBulbs Vehicle Finder and confirm the vehicle and configuration you selected.
You can also review Understanding Your Results if you need help interpreting verification labels, fitment notes, standard replacements, or LED alternatives.
Help Make ALBulbs Better
Automotive lighting information covers thousands of vehicles, lighting configurations, bulb numbers, and individual applications. Identifying discrepancies and reviewing them carefully helps improve the usefulness of the database over time.
If something does not match your vehicle, reporting the details is much more valuable than simply assuming the result is wrong.
